Rand and Robyn Miller had wanted the game to be made in a true 3-D environment, free for the player to explore, but due to technical limitations of the time, this was simply impossible (they later created a version of Myst like this, called realMyst). The original gameplay of Myst was different than nearly any game that had been made before it. He then asks The Stranger for their help in fighting Gehn and rescuing Catherine on Riven, setting up the events of the next game. If they bring the page, Atrus links back to Myst and appears to burn the Red and Blue books containing Sirrus and Achenar (though later games contradict this). If the player links to the D'ni age before finding the page, they become stuck there with Atrus forever. However, Atrus is stuck within the book (as Sirrus and Achenar had torn a single white page from his linking book, stranding him there) and requests The Stranger find the missing page. The good ending is achieved by finding a white page and bringing it to the green book, which contains Atrus. He gloats as The Stranger becomes trapped in the Blue Book and tears out the blue pages, stranding them there. The second ending is similar and results from bringing the blue page back to Achenar. Sirrus laughs at him/her and tears the pages from the book, eager to find Achenar. The first bad ending results from bringing the red page back to Sirrus, who swaps places with The Stranger. They both warn The Stranger not to touch the green book, as they will become trapped there forever.Īt this point, players can experience either the two bad endings or the good ending. Though their stories conflict, each figure that Atrus is dead and they are forever trapped in their prisons.Īfter returning all four pages from the ages, they both tell The Stranger to find a pattern in a burnt book and use it in the fireplace, which will lead them to their final pages. However, each blames the other for the destruction of the books in The Library with Achenar blaming Sirrus' greed and Sirrus blaming Achenar's instability. Their first encounter with another human on the island is with Sirrus and Achenar, who are trapped within the red and blue books and request that The Stranger visit the ages to find the pages to their books to free them.Īs The Stranger explores the four ages, Sirrus and Achenar begin to tell him/her more about their imprisonment and past, explaining that they are the sons of Atrus and Catherine and that their father Atrus wrote the ages. The Stranger, the name given to the player by Myst fans, finds the book and subsequently links to Myst, where they are tasked with exploring the island. The game begins with Atrus falling down into the Star Fissure and dropping a Myst Linking Book. Spoiler warning: Hints, solutions, and/or spoilers follow.

Cessna supplemented this in 1998 with the 180 hp (135 kW) Cessna 172S Skyhawk SP. Production halted in the mid-1980s, but resumed in 1996 with the 160 hp (120 kW) Cessna 172R Skyhawk. Cessna advertised this added rear visibility as " Omni-Vision". The final aesthetic development, found in the 1963 172D and all later 172 models, was a lowered rear deck allowing an aft window. In 1960, the 172A incorporated revised landing gear and the swept-back tailfin, which is still in use today. Įarly 172s were similar in appearance to the 170s, with the same straight aft fuselage and tall landing gear legs, although the 172 had a straight tailfin while the 170 had a rounded fin and rudder. The 172 became an overnight sales success, and over 1,400 were built in 1956, its first full year of production. Later, the 172 was given its own type certificate. To reduce the time and cost of certification, the type was added to the Cessna 170 type certificate as the Model 172. Although the variant was tested and certified, Cessna decided to modify it with a tricycle landing gear, and the modified Cessna 170C flew again on June 12, 1955. In January 1955, Cessna flew an improved variant of the Cessna 170, a Continental O-300-A-powered Cessna 170C with larger elevators and a more angular tailfin. The Cessna 172 started life as a tricycle landing gear variant of the taildragger Cessna 170, with a basic level of standard equipment. The aircraft remains in production today.Ī general aviation airplane, the Skyhawk's main competitors have been the Beechcraft Musketeer and Grumman AA-5 series (neither currently in production), the Piper Cherokee, and, more recently, the Diamond DA40 and Cirrus SR20.ĭesign and development A 1960 Cessna 172A Early Cessna 172s, like this 1957 model, had a " fastback" rear cabin with no rear window and featured a "square" fin design. Cessna delivered the first production model in 1956, and as of 2015, the company and its partners had built more than 44,000 units. Measured by its longevity and popularity, the Cessna 172 is the most successful aircraft in history. The Skyhawk name was originally used for a trim package, but was later applied to all standard-production 172 aircraft, while some upgraded versions were marketed as the Cutlass. It was developed from the 1948 Cessna 170 but with tricycle landing gear rather than conventional landing gear. First flown in 1955, more 172s have been built than any other aircraft. I still can put the trim wheel at the end of the center console later. The Cessna 172 Skyhawk is an American four-seat, single-engine, high wing, fixed-wing aircraft made by the Cessna Aircraft Company. Plus I plan to put my IPad behind the throttle against the GA throttle sort of at an angle like the FMC. Each throttle are independent reverse trust when in the lower position, like the A380 as only 2 inboard reversers so I can do that by pushing only the 2 center trust lever back. Blue lever is Spoilers, 4 Black Throttle, Red lever Flaps. I made the center console a bit longer 21cm wide x 36cm long(from the Panel) x48cm high behind the throttle (52cm at the throttle) and installed 2 throttle angle back, easier to push and more like normal, cause I still like to fly Big jets with 2 to 4 engines. I did not wanted to close for the FIP’s behind it but again it’s up to you. The Yoke is cutout to fit and sticks out 30mm from the face of the panel, again it was to leave enough room for my hands when I push in on the yoke. I made a small shelf inside to better support the Saitek yoke and screw it to the shelf. I printed the PDF file in many pages, tape them together, then trace the outline and mark the center of the yoke, plus I made mine the full height including the small part in the center for the center console, again to better fit the switch panel under the yoke. My Cockpit is about 10cm higher then it says for comfort and because the saitek pedals take a bit of room, so for the high go with what ever is comfortable. For that part I would not worry to much about it. If you are not close to our service center, we suggest having your vehicle towed here just to be safe.

You simply choose ‘Compile text in comments’ from the Additional Tasks tests. PerfectItįor completeness, I’ll mention a fourth option, which is suitable if you just want a summary table of comments (but not insertions and deletions) and you use PerfectIt. I wasn’t after this myself, so I haven’t tested it, but you might like to give it a go. There’s a free version as well as a paid version that allows you to customise some aspects. If you find the idea of using macros too daunting, you might like to know that DocTools also offers a Word add-in that will do the same job. I believe that Paul Beverley has similar macros (and also available for free). The table of comments extracted by the second macro doesn’t give line numbers (although it gives the word/s selected where the comment is located). I think the line numbers make it much more useful than the list produced in Word. Here’s an example of the table created by the first of those macros. extract comments (only) to a new Word document.extract tracked insertions and deletions (but not comments) to a new Word document. One source is DocTools, who provide free macros that will: Sure enough, kind macro-writers have shared macros that produce a handy list. I don’t think this table is ideal it might still be hard to find where a comma was deleted or a dash inserted on a page. On my Mac, I find the option at File > Print and go to settings for Microsoft Word and select Print What: List of markup. In that drop-down menu, select List of Markup. On my PC, I go to File > Print and click on the arrow at Print All Pages. It turns out that Word lets you print out a list of tracked changes and comments – another case of finding really useful capabilities when you look further into Word’s menu options. I found four main techniques for producing a summary of edits: This applies in other scenarios too, even for people who are familiar with Track Changes. I used a clumsy work-around at the time, but being able to give them a summary of edits and comments would have been very useful. Maybe they were simply inexperienced with Track Changes. I wanted my client to see my tracked edits, but they seemed to not see the edits at all, even my comments. Since then, I’ve come across some solutions in Word too. A few months ago, I wrote about having trouble getting an author to see my tracked changes in Word (and showed a solution for that problem in PDFs). It’s the connective tissue between the daring stunts that’s flimsy.īut first: a flashback to 10 years ago. You’re here to have fun, and “Skyscraper” does indeed provide that in its many dizzying and death-defying action sequences. Having them burst into people’s offices and obliterate them entirely-while the camera steers away from the bloodshed, per MPAA guidelines-feels gratuitous. Many, many people die needlessly in this PG-13 spectacle in the name of thrills, maybe? Character development? The international cadre of criminals who take over a Hong Kong high-rise – the tallest structure in the world, three times the size of the Empire State Building – are clearly, singularly bad. We aren't anywhere near the point where we are no longer atop the global box office heap but as films continue to reap 60%-75% of their box office totals from countries not named the US or Canada look for Hollywood to tailor more films, especially action titles and sequels, to foreign markets as Universal did with Skyscraper.Īs that happens, watch for Hollywood to concentrate even more on Shanghai, Seoul and Sao Paulo than they do San Francisco, Seattle and Saskatoon. But writer/director Rawson Marshall Thurber has attempted the problematic combination of making you feel good about bravery and resilience while also making you feel nothing about the countless bodies that get blown to bits in a hail of automatic gunfire. Domestic opening weekends now only tell a part of the tale. As difficult as it is for some long-time Hollywood pundits to accept, it's the new reality. Those watching Hollywood need to understand that North America is no longer the box office make-or-break it once was. If the film had opened to $75 million in North America it would have been heralded as an unadulterated success. Overall, the film amassed $75 million overseas this past weekend and its global total stands at $182 million, 74% of which has come from international territories. Skyscraper opened to a hefty $48 million in China this past weekend and was one of the few Hollywood titles ever to play during the country's annual black-out period of July and August. But those who follow Hollywood have to remember that in many instances we are but one of many worldwide territories. Yes, Skyscraper will only end up around $65 million in North America and at a reported budget of $125 million that would generally be considered a failure. North American moviegoers may be getting tired of seeing Johnny Depp dressing up like Keith Richards but that isn't the case overseas. Paul Dergarabedian, Senior Media Analyst for comScore, notes, "This year even an undisputed mega-hit like Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom has earned more than double its North American gross in the international territories and that enabled the film to push past the elusive $1 billion dollar mark worldwide."įurthermore, 2017 films such as Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Transformers: The Last Knight, The Fate of the Furious, and Ghost in the Shell all saw their international box office take account for greater than 75% of their respective worldwide grosses. Still, to this day, headlines proclaim success or failure of a film after the domestic opening weekend, somehow ignoring the international market and its 55%-65% or more of total worldwide gross. Once upon a time in Hollywood, the ultimate success of a film depended solely on the domestic market and the international territories were almost an afterthought. It should be noted that Skyscraper continues a trend toward an ever-increasing percentage of worldwide box office coming from overseas territories. While its $100 million domestic gross was considered acceptable, its $326 million foreign take turned it into a moneymaker, even at a reported budget of $125 million, which incidentally is the same as Skyscraper's. Seventy-six percent of that film's worldwide box office gross came from the international market. Johnson's last film, Rampage, is a good comparison. As mentioned, the film is set in Asia with names recognizable in those territories, but less so here. and head east, it's clear where the ultimate success or failure of Skyscraper lies. The government has to put in the roads, the pipes, the cables, the airports, bridges and somehow tackle pollution and urban sprawl. How do you reduce that massive sunk cost? Because that's a central cost that any government has to pay. The expensive thing about starting a city is infrastructure. The goal is to ensure people are only ever five minutes away from everything they want in the world because all will be directly below or above you. This is not just stacking everything on top of each other, we are reinventing things that exist in a conventional horizontal realm for a vertical close-proximity landscape. It will also be the first city in the world to be completely run by renewable energy – with a zero-carbon footprint. You can just go directly across at whatever height to the stadium. So if you're in module 40 and you need to go to the football match in module 44, you don't have to go down to go across to go up. As a resident or visitor, you’ll have the ability to travel easily between modules horizontally. This has never been attempted before, we're taking an entire city and putting it on a footprint that's 200 meters wide. This will be the very first vertical city with mobility built into its very core. Nearly nine million people will live on THE LINE when complete, most of the population of NEOM in fact. It is the epicenter for all activities – the primary home for residents, as a vertical city with all the activities that will be there – from opera houses and libraries to stadiums and universities. However, there are numerous articles about the RF 100mm f2.8L macros lens that describe the focus shift problem with sample images. I have never read a review or article about the original EF 100MM f2.8 macro lens or the EF 100mm f2.8L macro lens that mentioned focus shift. “Three-group floating” focusing construction uses three independently moving groups, which holds focusing-related changes of aberrations to a minimum giving excellent image quality all the way from infinity to life size. All of which has nothing to do with the question. Also, during focusing the front ring does not rotate making use of front-mounting accessories like macro ring lites simple and effective. In sum, overall I rate this much better than my Vivitar 100mm f/3.5 macro, better than my Pentax SMC Takumar 100mm f/4 (especially at non-macro distances), and only slightly behind my Minolta MD Macro Rokkor-X 100mm f/4. The lens length remains constant and a long working distance of 149mm makes worrying about getting too close to the subject unnecessary. The new RF 100mm f/2.8 L Macro IS USM lens from Canon does what it really needed to do: provided a faster-focusing, excellent macro that is sharp across the frame. Within Canon’s own lineup, there are two great options: the EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro and the EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM. Simply focus on learning and developing, plan to upgrade sooner rather than later. If you’re looking for a dedicated macro lens to use with a Canon DSLR, you’ve got a few choices. Field Use of the 100mm Macro F/2.8 Cannon Before discussing my field practice with this lens, I would like to point out that I use the Canon 100mm macro on an APS-C camera, the Canon 7D. Compared to the 1st party macro options, it offers dedicated macro photographers a lot of performance at a good value. But anyway, the auto-focus is still excellent, having tested it a bit in portrait, an area where the Canon 100mm macro also excels. You can limit it so when youre not shooting macro it wont try and hunt for focus in that range and will focus Somewhat faster on more distant subjects. RP with kit lens, 1k through loyalty program. The Laowa 100mm f/2.8 2X macro lens is a very interesting value proposition. Its a focus limiting switch, in one position itll auto focus from the min focusing distance to infinity and in the limited focusing position itll focus from 0.48m to infinity. Although it replaces the EF 100mm f/2.8 MACRO lens marketed in 1991, it is a completely new design. Hopefully using the Canon loyalty program, Ive narrowed it down to roughly three approaches. I'm wondering if there have been any subsequent additions to this list. This telephoto macro lens is capable of focusing to life-size (1X) without attachments. Crystal faces form only where there is enough open space in the rock mass to allow the natural geometric forms of the crystals to develop as free faces. When crystallization occurs, the atoms that comprise a mineral become arranged in regular, geometric patterns that are unique to the specific mineral. All rocks consist of mixtures of various crystalline minerals. When I say "crystals," don't visualize those beautiful pointed prisms of quartz found in geodes. This volcanic glass has an almost total absence of sizable mineral crystals within the glass matrix. Obsidian is natural glass that was originally molten magma associated with a volcano. My goal in this article is to increase your awareness of some of the more fascinating aspects of this incredible stone. The ancient volcanic hills called Glass Buttes hold a dazzling variety of gem-quality obsidian, including: mahogany, red, flame, midnight lace, jet black, pumpkin, brown, rainbow, gold sheen, silver sheen, green, lizard skin, snowflake and more. But until a few years ago when I made my first obsidian collecting trip to Glass Buttes, Oregon, I thought obsidian was pretty much just black glass. Sharp and shiny, obsidian is so different from other rocks. Ever since I had my first rock collection as a child, I've loved obsidian. Pumice is ground up and used today in soaps, abrasive cleansers, and also in polishes.Obsidian. Some lava blocks are large enough to carry small animals. Huge pumice blocks have been seen floating on the ocean after large eruptions. Pumice is so light that it actually floats on water. As the lava hurtles through the air it cools and the gases escape leaving the rock full of holes. The lava is ejected and shot through the air during an eruption. Pumice is formed from lava that is full of gas. Pumice is a very light colored, frothy volcanic rock. The minerals that make up rhyolite are quartz, feldspar, mica, and hornblende. Rhyolite is an extrusive igneous rock having cooled much more rapidly than granite, giving it a glassy appearance. These crystals are so small that they can not be seen by the naked eye. The difference is rhyolite has much finer crystals. Rhyolite is very closely related to granite. It is composed mostly of the mineral plagioclase feldspar with smaller amounts of pyroxene and olivine. Gabbro is very similar to basalt in its mineral make up. Gabbro is a dark-colored, coarse-grained intrusive igneous rock. Today obsidian is used as a scalpel by doctors in very sensitive eye operations. Obsidian is usually black or a very dark green, but it can also be found in an almost clear form.Īncient people throughout the world have used obsidian for arrowheads, knives, spearheads, and cutting tools of all kinds. Obsidian is produced in nature in a similar way. When people make glass they melt silica rocks like sand and quartz then cool it rapidly by placing it in water. The lava cools so quickly that no crystals can form. Obsidian is produced when lava cools very quickly. Notice in the photo to the left how it fractures. When obsidian breaks it fractures with a distinct conchoidal fracture. Obsidian is a very shiny natural volcanic glass. The principle minerals that make up dacite are plagioclase, quartz, pyroxene, or hornblende. The Canadian Shield of North America contains huge outcroppings (surface rocks) of granite.ĭacite is an extrusive igneous rock. The State of New Hampshire has the nickname "Granite State" because of the amount of granite in the mountains of that beautiful state. Granite is quarried in many places in the world including the United States. Engravings in the granite can be read for hundreds of years, making the rock more valuable. It is also used for monuments because it weathers slowly. Granite is an excellent material for building bridges and buildings because it can withstand thousands of pounds of pressure. Look at the photo of granite above, notice the different crystals in the rock. This allows crystals of the four minerals to grow large enough to be easily seen by the naked eye. Because it hardens deep underground it cools very slowly. Granite forms as magma cools far under the earth's surface. These minerals are quartz, feldspar, mica, and usually hornblende. Granite is an igneous rock that is composed of four minerals. Some basalts are intrusive having cooled inside the Earth's interior. Most basalts are volcanic in origin and were formed by the rapid cooling and hardening of the lava flows. They are the most widespread of all the igneous rocks. The mineral grains are so fine that they are impossible to distinguish with the naked eye or even a magnifying glass. Basalts are dark colored, fine-grained extrusive rock. |
